There’s “no time to die” for the 10 seniors and 3 teachers before Wednesday’s spy-themed Mr. Brea Competition on an action-packed stage in the PAC at 7 p.m. 

In the spirit of the evening’s theme – “James Bond 007” – the Wildcat got to know the 10 senior contestants competing for the coveted Mr. Brea 2022 title.


Curtis Ahn

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“Because I love Brea Olinda High School.” 

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“I think that it is definitely pretty cool because I didn’t really expect to be nominated. It was kind of a cool surprise when I got the [Mr. Brea nominee] sash.”

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I am going to be cooking and showing off my cooking YouTube channel called Curt Eats.” 

What are your preparations for the show? 

“I am making a YouTube video and then I am going to be getting my ingredients for what I will be making. Then I am going to have a video playing with me while I am performing on stage.”

What are your expectations for the show?

“I expect to have a lot of fun and just have a good time with my friends, and hopefully, everyone in the crowd will have a good time.”


Aidan Arnold

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“I am genuine, optimistic, and I think I am a good representation of Brea.”

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“It is a really big honor to be nominated. I love hanging out with the guys every day at lunch during the dance practices, and it’s a really cool experience.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I will be doing a choreographed dance representing my football team.”

What are your preparations for the show? 

“We’ve been doing dance practices at lunch every day. Then, we’ve been doing videos on the side and I’m also doing another dance for my talent.”

What are your expectations for the show?

“I think that it is going to be really fun and that people should definitely come. All of us that are nominated are definitely gonna have fun.”


Neil Azimi 

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“My dancing skills may not be the best but I can put on a show!” 

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“I feel surprised and obligated to do awesome now.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I will be DJ’ing. (Follow @djneilergy on Instagram.)” 

What are your preparations for the show? 

“My preparations are plenty of dance practices and practicing my DJ set.” 

What are your expectations for the show?

“My expectations are that it will be full of energy and really funny.” 


Brad Boschman

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“Myself, obviously. Who else would be better?”

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“It’s pretty cool I guess but kind of a lot of work.”

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I don’t want to give away my game plan before the show.” 

What are your preparations for the show? 

“Lots of practice [and] not trying to look like an idiot out there. (I probably still will though.)”

What are your expectations for the show?

“I think it will be fun. I’ll be glad when it’s over though.” 


Garrett Brookman

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“My talent is really good; it will get a lot of people excited and happy. [But] that’s a hard question [because] there is a lot of good competition out there.”

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“It’s good. It’s a lot of work to do so it’s bittersweet, but I’m super excited.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I’m doing a dance from a certain movie that involves high school, so I don’t want to give too much away. The movie title pretty much gives everything away, but yeah.”

What are your preparations for the show? 

“We’ve been practicing dances three times a week at lunch. I have to practice my own act on weekends with people, and mainly we have just learned a lot of dances.”

What are your expectations for the show?

“Hopefully to win, but just have fun with all the people who are in it, and just have a good time out there.” 


Marco Brunyer

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“I think my talent is going to be fun, it’s going to be a good time.”

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“To be honest, I didn’t really want to [be nominated] just because of how much work it is, but now that I’m doing it, it’s kind of fun.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“Well, not to give too much away, but, I’m doing kind of like a mini ‘Mr. Brea’ competition with another Mr. Brea contestant as my talent.”

What are your preparations for the show? 

“Just practicing…practicing the gig, I guess.”

What are your expectations for the show?

“I think that it will be fun and it will be relieving to finally release all that pent-up anxiety.”


Jacob Cooper

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“Because it’ll be a cool and funny thing to tell my kids.” 

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“I honestly feel kind of good being nominated because there are only 10 people who got nominated in our whole grade, and I think it’s kinda cool that people wanted to see me in the show as one of those 10 people.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I will be lip-syncing to a song with my best friend, Faith Knapp.” 

What are your preparations for the show? 

“I’ve been practicing the dance that all the guys do and I’ve been practicing the lyrics to the song that I’m lip-syncing to.”

What are your expectations for the show?

“I’ve watched the show in the past before, so I’m expecting it to go pretty much the same way and I’m expecting it to be a pretty fun thing to be a part of.” 


Nolan Guss

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“Well, I dance like a boss and I sing like a boss.”

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“I am very honored that the school would even think to give me this prestigious nomination.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I’ll be singing and playing piano for my act.” 

What are your preparations for the show? 

“It’s been long hours dancing, long hours singing.” 

What are your expectations for the show?

“It should be very fun, very entertaining. Everybody should come see it, it will be a very good show to watch.” 


Reed McElroy

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“I am like a top-notch dancer, I’m super smooth on the floor. That’s probably the main reason.” 

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“You know, I was surprised at first, I didn’t really think I’d get nominated, but it’s been fun.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“Me and Marco [Brunyer] are doing a dual talent. We are doing a hot dog eating contest, a little guitar playing, a little painting, and a little lightsaber battle.” 

What are your preparations for the show? 

“It’s actually taken quite a lot of time. A lot of practice for the dancing, a lot of brainstorming talent ideas, and a lot of pictures.”

What are your expectations for the show?

“I think it will be a fun time.”


Ryan Seidl

Why do you think you should be Mr. Brea? 

“I should be Mr. Brea because I’m a man of the people, and that includes Josh Han. I know everybody loves Josh Han, so a vote for me is a vote for Josh.”

How do you feel about being nominated? 

“I was a little surprised I was nominated but I think it’s sick.” 

What will you be doing for the show? 

“I’ll be doing the usual opening dance routine as well as the swimsuit portion of the show, but my talent is still a secret.” 

What are your preparations for the show? 

“To prepare for the show, I’ve worked on learning the dance routine two to three times per week for the last two months. I’ve also spent time with my escort Kelli and friends Josh and Zach, practicing for our respective parts of the show.” 

What are your expectations for the show?

“I’m expecting the show to be very competitive but also very fun and engaging for us contestants, as well as the audience.”


Mr. Brea 2022 will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available at the door for $15.
