RECAP: ’80s Night is ‘Totally Tubular’
Six of the 12 remaining stars dance to totally rad songs from ’80s
Dancing with the Stars traveled back in time on Oct. 12 for ’80s night and brought back big hair and leg warmers to the dance floor.
To start the night off, actress Justina Machado and Sasha “brought the ’80s,” according to judge Carrie Ann Inaba. The couple danced the jazz and scored 24 out of 30.
Actor Jesse Metcalfe and pro dancer Sharna danced a totally tubular tango, but scored a 19 out of 30, not as high as they hoped. “We [judges] want you to have those breakthroughs” judge Derek Hough shared, “but I didn’t think this was your best dance.”
Chrishell Stause, actress, and pro Gleb, danced the cha-cha to New Kids on the Block’s “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” and scored a 19 out of 30. Although it wasn’t their best score, the duo received a personal video from the NKOTB “boys,” and Stause was ecstatic.
A clean and Madonna-approved jazz danced by host Jeannie Mai and partner Brandon to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” acquired a 24 out of 30 from the judges. Inaba commented that Mai is “the most exciting performer, and that performance showed” it.
Actress Skai Jackson and Alan danced their way “back to the future” while performing a jazz routine inspired by the ’80s blockbuster, Back to the Future.
NFL Champion Vernon Davis and his partner Peta danced a rockin’ tango and scored 21 out of 30. Hough shared that he wanted “a little more attack, but well done.”
For the first contemporary of the season, Olympian Johnny Weir and pro Britt danced to the ’80s ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler. Tonioli applauded the two for dancing beautifully and modeling a perfect contemporary dance. They scored 29 out of 30, the highest of the night, and season, so far.
The bottom two of the night were Jesse and Vernon, and their partners. The judges decided to keep Vernon, letting Jesse and Sharna go.
