Make-Up Trends Hot on TikTok
A new year brings new trends, and TikTok continues to be the go-to social media app for highlighting new and upcoming beauty products. Lifestyles co-editors Katie Kudron and Melea Altermatt discuss the top beauty trends dominating TikTok in 2021.
Popularized by TikTok user Skincare by Hyram, this face mask is said to transform skin. Along with other products from The Ordinary, the #theordinary hashtag, heavily featuring this peeling mask, has 705.5 million views. This chemical exfoliant will get rid of dead skin cells and unclog pores, resulting in clear smooth skin with consistent use. However, the best part about this product is the price: Effective skincare products can get pricey, but this peeling solution is only $7, which definitely contributes to this product’s popularity.
Looking for an aesthetically-pleasing and moisturizing body cream? Look no further. This body butter is a swirly mix of vibrant colors that are visible through the side of a classy jar in which the product lies. Truly Beauty’s clean, vegan, and whipped body butter uses vegetable collagen to enhance the skin’s youth and leave it refreshed, smelling like sugary-goodness, as one can imagine a unicorn might be. Through the exposure and popularity gained on TikTok, the TikTok hashtag #trulybeauty has over 205 million views. Truly Beauty has even added a “TikTok Bundle” composed of six of the most viral Truly Beauty products on TikTok yet.
TikTok’s current obsession is this hair dryer brush by Revlon. The hashtag #revlonhairdryerbrush has 75.2 million views. This hair dryer brush is priced at $60 and users only have positive things to say about it. The brush’s shape is used to create voluminous, shiny, smooth hair. This hair dryer is used on slightly damp hair to create a salon-quality blowout that has been getting increasingly popular on social media.
One of the many popular makeup items trending on TikTok that Benefit Cosmetics has produced is the Precisely My Brow Pencil to fill and fluff eyebrows. With 12 different shades, this ultra-fine brow pencil defines the shape of brows and lasts for up to 12 hours. To achieve perfect looking brows, twist up the non-sharpened tip and apply small hair-like strokes to the skin. The hashtag #benefitcosmetics currently has 62.3 million views, showcasing this brow pencil and plenty of other Benefit Cosmetics products.
Thanks to TikTok, this magical mascara has been brought into the limelight. The #lorealtelescopic hashtag on TikTok has 30.2 million views which can attest to its popularity. This mascara by L’Oreal comes in sleek gold packaging and has a super tiny mascara wand, which is uncommon in comparison to other popular mascaras. This little wand helps separate and lengthen even the shortest of lashes without weighing them down. At only $11, this mascara is able to lengthen and volumize lashes like no other mascara can.
Jadestone face rollers have many natural benefits atop of depuffing the face, like stimulating circulation, boosting the skin’s natural detoxification process, and drawing away toxins to provide a gentle face-toning effect. Jade itself feels cool to the skin, as it brightens it and also supercharges any skin products on the face by using a calming face massage. This self-care essential is even classified as an “anti-aging” tool by dermatologists when used properly, hence why this has become such a hot item in newer skincare routines from celebrities down to ordinary teenagers. Check out these rollers under the TikTok hashtag #jaderoller with 28.2 million views.
Maui Moisture, the brand, and not the Island of Hawaii, has been seen recently in many Gen-Z TikToks of people’s shower routines, and under the hashtag #mauimoisture with 22.2 million views. The brand specializes in shampoos and conditioners for all hair types from straight to coiled, dry, and color-treated. Each shampoo and conditioner is made with different exotic and fresh scents that transport you from your personal shower to an endless Hawaiian summer.
These Isle Of Paradise Self Tanning Drops make self-tanning easy. Coming in three shades — light, medium, and dark — these drops are incredibly simple to use. Created as a dupe for Tatcha’s expensive Silk Canvas Primer, e.l.f. cosmetics created the Poreless Putty Primer retailing at only $8. This primer is said to smooth out and perfect the skin flawlessly. The velvety feel helps the primer go on smoothly and makes makeup last all day. Many on TikTok rave about this product and the airbrushed look it gives their skin. With 2.2 million views on the #elfporelessputtyprimer hashtag, this product definitely seems worth it.
When hair is wet and straight out of a shower, hair follicles are in the most vulnerable position, as they are susceptible to breakage or split ends. If the hair is left wet when heading to sleep instead of air-drying or blow-drying it, the safest way to keep your hair healthy is to sleep with it in a bun or braid held together by a satin scrunchie. Soft, satin materials prevent breakage in the strands of hair and keep it dent-free, as a result, satin scrunchies have been gaining popularity to help with better hair care routines. The hashtag #satinscrunchies on TikTok has 260.9 thousand views, and you can find thousands of videos featuring these hot new hair helpers.
