Ellie Segura, senior, is excited to begin her first year on staff as Opinion Editor and amplify the student voice of BOHS through journalism. At school, Ellie is involved in Speech and Debate, Academic Decathlon, Robotics, Rotary Interact, Spanish Club, and NHS. Off campus, Ellie represents the K-12 population of BOUSD as the student board representative and is committed to serve the community and improve student life across all BOUSD schools. An avid fan of TV, Ellie’s all-time favorite production is the comedic series, The Good Place. When not writing and editing pieces, Ellie spends her spare time entertaining her cat, Schmidt, reading books, and practicing the clarinet.

Currently at BOHS, the study of African American history is limited to a few pages in eleventh grade U.S. history textbooks and a few reading selections in AP Language and Composition and AP Literature. By adding College Boards latest course -- AP African American Studies -- BOHS can correct a curriculum blind spot and be at the forefront of diversity in education in Orange County.
